Alas (Name)

Alas (transliteration: ʿAlas, Arabic: علس) that means “large tick” (tick being an insect)¹ and “spelt” (a type of wheat)². We do not recommend using this name due to its comical similarity with the English word “alas”.

There are two Companions of the Prophet Muhammad named Alas:

• Alas bin al-Aswad al-Kindi علس بن الأسود الكندي
• Alas bin al-Nu`man bin Amr علس بن النعمان بن عمرو
